MESSAGE FROM FIRE CHIEF ANDY LEE

Spring into Safety: A Message from the Fire Chief

Dear Residents,

As the days lengthen and the weather warms, spring brings with it new opportunities to enjoy our beautiful district. However, this season also presents specific fire safety considerations that I want to bring to your attention. By taking a few proactive steps, we can all help ensure a safe and enjoyable spring.

One of the most crucial safety measures is smoke alarm maintenance. Please take the time this month to test your smoke alarms and replace the batteries. A working smoke alarm can significantly increase your family's chances of survival in a fire. Remember, it's recommended to have smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside and outside sleeping areas.

Spring cleaning is another common activity this time of year, and it's an excellent opportunity to address potential fire hazards outside your home.

Outdoors:

  • Clear your yard of any dry vegetation, such as leaves, pine needles, and branches, especially within five feet of your home.
  • Clean out gutters and roofs to prevent the accumulation of flammable debris.
  • If you have gasoline or other flammable liquids, store them in approved, tightly sealed containers in a well-ventilated area away from living spaces and heat sources. Never store gasoline indoors.
  • If you plan on having campfires or outdoor controlled burns, ensure they are at least 10 feet away from any structures and clear the surrounding area of vegetation. Never leave a fire unattended and have a water source or shovel nearby. Be mindful of local fire restrictions and weather conditions, especially wind.

Your safety is our top priority. By working together and taking these precautions, we can all enjoy a fire-safe spring season in our district.

Sincerely,

Andy Lee, Fire Chief
